The incident took place in Hartford County around 1:40 p.m., Sunday, June 7, when the Farmington Police Department received a 911 call reporting a man was drowning in the river behind the Tunxis Meade Park.
Officers from the Farmington Police Department responded along with the Farmington Fire Department, Tunxis Hose Fire Department, and AMR ambulance to assist in the water rescue, said Lt. Timothy McKenzie.
According to McKenzie, friends swimming with the Waterbury resident said he was last seen going under the water about 20 feet from shore.
Members of the Connecticut State Police Dive team responded and recovered the unidentified teen's body, McKenzie said.
McKenzie cautions all swimmers in the Farmington River during this time of year to use life jackets or other flotation devices due to the cold temperature of the water, which can quickly incapacitate swimmers of all abilities.
